SUBMISSIONS

New filmmakers experience Malibu Film Festival is a great place to launch their careers. We strongly encourage filmmakers to submit early. No special jury consideration is made for films with respect to date of submission.

DECISIONS ALREADY MADE

This event has already made decisions and notified submitters for the current cycle. Submissions are no longer being accepted.

Feature Films

Any narrative work of fiction with a running time of at least 50 minutes, including films that are shot in a "mockumentary" style.

Short Films

Any narrative film with a running time of less than 50 minutes. Short Films have no premiere requirements. Short Films may have had any number of public theatrical exhibitions, been released on DVD, and may have been broadcast on television or the internet and still retain eligibility.

Documentary Films

Any non-fiction film. Documentary Films have no running time requirements.

Guidelines

• Please note that the ONLY difference in the early submission deadline versus the final submission deadline is the fee discount. The submission process and consideration by the Programming Committee is not affected by the date you submit your film as long as it is postmarked by our final deadline - your chances are equal regardless of the day your film makes it into our offices, as long as it is postmarked by the final deadline!

Selection

• MFF 2012 films will be selected by the festival programmers.

• ALL films submitted to the festival are seen and scored by two different programmers. All films that have a higher average, or are a favorite of a programmer, go on to final deliberations. MFF selects its films by majority vote and nothing is offered early acceptance.

• Film Submissions are non-returnable for any reason.

• If a film is accepted, entrants will be solely responsible for delivering their exhibition video materials to and from the festival venue. Complete press kits will be needed as soon after notification as possible. MFF cannot be held liable for your exhibition print/video materials which are lost or damaged.

• If your film wins either a Grand Jury or Audience award, you are required to mention that fact in posters and other promotional material if and when the film gets distribution.

• Please note festival dates are subject to change.

• MFF provides room, board or travel for filmmakers, when possible.
